The Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta's cultural program seeks to fulfill its mission by hosting events portraying a positive image of modern Germany and German speaking countries. This is done through lectures, concerts, foreign films, theatre productions, and exhibits. In addition, we host Franco-German and European events in partnership with the Alliance Française d'Atlanta and European Consulates from all over the southeast region.
The Elyseé Treaty Celebration
Every year we partner with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Atlanta, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and the Alliance Française d'Atlanta, to celebrate the signing of the Elyseé Treaty. We welcome speakers from both France and Germany who not only discuss current issues, but also reflect on the past. They pay particular attention to how events have shaped both countries. Previous speakers have included:
- Mrs. Annette Cantor-Groenfeldt, granddaughter of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and Mrs. Amélie de Gaulle, great-niece of General Charles de Gaulle who shared their personal memories of the 2 great statesmen
- German journalist Christoph von Marschall (Der Tagesspiel) and French journalist Gallagher Fenwick (France 24) who discussed international terrorism, the UN Climate Change Conference and the refugee crisis in Europe
- Maurin Picard, New York-based correspondent for Le Figaro and Dr. Dieter Dettke of Georgetown University, who shared their unique perspectives on “Europe: What’s Next? Elections in France and Germany”
Annual European Wine Tasting
The first Friday in November can only mean one thing: the Annual European Wine Tasting. We join forces with our friends at the Consulate General of Swizterland, the Consulate General of Greece, the Honorary Consulate General of Hungary, Societa Dante Alighieri and the Alliance Française d'Atlanta, to offer wine samples from France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Hungary. We pair these selections with several different food offerings.
An Evening of Magic with Martin Lübke
German magician Martin Lübke amazed and entertained a huge crowd with his tricks. He used a number of different objects during his act, which thrilled our guests and left them wondering about his method!
Euro Cup and World Cup Soccer Screenings
If Germany is playing in an international tournament we'll be screening the games! Countless times we've cheered die Mannschaft to victory at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta countless times, including during the 2014 World Cup Final when over 500 people watched the tense game with us! We've also teamed up with Colony Square to host an outdoor screening of the first game during the Euro Cup in 2016, 250 people braved the weather which included stifling heat and a thunderstorm, to cheer the team to victory!
European Science Café Series
