Romana Konan
Dr. Romana Konan is a German language and literature educator with more than 30 years of teaching experience in Europe and the United States. She holds a Ph.D. in German Philology from the University of Vienna, with a research focus on German exile literature. Her doctoral degree has been formally evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. Ph.D. in German Philology.
Throughout her career, Romana has taught German to learners of all ages and proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced students, in secondary schools, universities, international schools, and online settings. She has extensive experience teaching German language and literature as well as preparing students for DSD, AP, AATG, and IB German examinations.
Originally from the German-speaking academic world of Austria, Romana has taught across Austria, Croatia, Germany, and the United States. She brings a multicultural perspective to the classroom and is committed to creating welcoming, supportive learning environments for students from diverse backgrounds. Her teaching combines strong language foundations with communication, cultural awareness, and practical application.
In addition to teaching, Romana is an active scholar of German literature. Her research focuses particularly on German exile literature such as Lion Feuchtwanger. She has published scholarly work and presented her research at international conferences in the United States and Europe.
Romana speaks German and Croatian natively and is fluent in English and Bosnian, with additional proficiency in Italian.
