Miles ahead. The Goethe-Zertifikat C1
The Goethe-Zertifikat C1 is a German exam for adults. It certifies that candidates have acquired very advanced language skills and corresponds to the fifth level (C1) on the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
PASSING THE EXAM DEMONSTRATES THAT YOU CAN ...
- understand a wide range of challenging, longer texts as well as grasp implicit meanings,
- express yourself spontaneously and fluently without frequently having to search for words,
- use the language effectively and flexibly in your social and professional life or during training or your studies,
- make clear, structured and detailed statements on complex topics.
Please contact your university, institution of higher education or preparatory course provider before your course of study is due to begin to find out if the Goethe-Zertifikat C1 is able to grant you exemption from taking a language entrance test for foreign students.

COVID-19 Update: We require all exam participants to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or to present a negative PCR test result from a medical facility taken within 72 hours of my exam start time to be admitted to an exam at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta.
A person is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after completion of a COVID-19 vaccination series (after the second dose of a 2-dose series, or after one dose of a single-dose vaccine). Proof of vaccination (vaccination card) is required. If you have been in close contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or have experienced any flu-like symptoms (e.g. fever, headache, dry cough, respiratory problems, diarrhea) within 10 days prior to the date of the exam, please stay home.
As of January 2023, we recommend wearing a mask while in the Goethe-Zentrum for events, classes, and exams. If the COVID risk assessment changes by the exam date, you may be required to wear a mask during the exam. Refusal to do so can lead to exclusion from the exam.
Once you register for an exam on our website, you may cancel your registration up to the date that registration closes, approximately 3-4 weeks before the exam date, and receive a full refund of your registration fee. After this deadline, your registration is non-refundable. If you are sick on exam day, have had COVID symptoms within 10 days of the exam, have a positive COVID test, or have been exposed to COVID, you can take the exam at no additional cost on the next date the exam is offered at Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta.
