Boerge Deist
Since October of 2022, Boerge moderates the C1/C2 level conversation class Current Events.
Boege worked in the Italian and Spanish tile industry until retirement that spurred a love of reading and interest in news which brought him to running this course last year.
As a young apprentice he followed the advice of his first boss who suggested reading several papers every day: “Keep reading, even if you do not understand all of it”. A native German-speaker, Boerge improved his own English skills through subscribing to newspapers and magazine including Time Magazine. He later learned Italian by reading Italian papers, and he is keeping up the habit.
Boerge enjoys conversation, exchange, and discussion with interested and interesting people as part of the course.
In his Current Events course participants talk about current events that make headlines, history, politics, culture, environment and day to day lives of the German speaking people. Students read articles, watch talk video clips, and practice conversing about the headline topics.
The course format requires German language knowledge on the advanced C1/C2 level and provides a fun way to explore new vocabulary used in current day-to-day language.
