The Elyseé Treaty Celebration
Every year, we partner with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Atlanta, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta, and the Alliance Française d'Atlanta to celebrate the signing of the Elyseé Treaty. We welcome speakers from both France and Germany who not only discuss current issues, but also reflect on the past. They pay particular attention to how events have shaped both countries. Previous speakers have included:
- Mrs. Annette Cantor-Groenfeldt, granddaughter of Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and Mrs. Amélie de Gaulle, great-niece of General Charles de Gaulle who shared their personal memories of the 2 great statesmen
- German journalist Christoph von Marschall (Der Tagesspiel) and French journalist Gallagher Fenwick (France 24) who discussed international terrorism, the UN Climate Change Conference and the refugee crisis in Europe
- Maurin Picard, New York-based correspondent for Le Figaro and Dr. Dieter Dettke of Georgetown University, who shared their unique perspectives on “Europe: What’s Next? Elections in France and Germany”
