A Note on Opera: Wagner’s “Das Rheingold"

Tuesday, October 22, 2019
1:30 pm3:30 pm
Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, Peachtree 1201 St. NE, 400 Colony Square, Suite 1104

Please join me for Richard Wagner’s “Das Rheingold’ [The Gold of the Rhine].

“Das Rheingold” is the 1st part of Wagner’s cycle of 4 operas entitled “Der Ring des Nibelungen” [The Ring of the Nibelung].

Don’t let the scale of Wagner’s “Ring” Cycle intimidate you; it’s really a very simple, direct story of an extended family wrestling greed and ambition; simply put, it’s about the intersection between the corrupting nature of power and the redemptive nature of love.

Though 4 operas comprise the “Ring,” each opera is a “stand alone” work, in and of itself. Such is the case with “Das Rheingold.”

I hope you’ll test the waters of Wagner’s “Ring” Cycle by joining me for “Das Rheingold.”

$20.00 for members, $30.00 for non-members.

To be taught in English by David Kerr

No pre-existing knowledge of music or German required.
