Art in Motion under the Stars - Pastoral meets Tropic Ice Miami
Barbara Dombrowski's moving climate change photography set to Beethoven’s 6th Symphony in Miami
Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta for the Southeast, UCC Coral Gables Church, and the German Consulate General in Miami present the video installation project Tropic Ice meets Pastoral – A Dialog between Places affected by Climate Change. The cinematic event is a treat for lovers of photography, classical music, showing what will be lost when we lose the fight against climate change.
Join us on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 7 pm – 9 pm for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience climate change and Anthropocene photographer Barbara Dombrowski’s “Tropic Ice” photographs as a digital photo exhibition set to the music of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, his 6th symphony known as an “expression of nature."
Dombrowski is a renowned German photographer and visual artist who dedicates her work to places affected by climate change. She is focusing on relevant and specific climate localities and their indigenous population living between established tradition and global modernity. Their existence and their space to live are seriously threatened by direct or indirect impacts of climate change.
With the impressive visual illustration of the movements of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Dombrowski takes up the underlying themes of nature, and with the help of breathtaking shots of people, animals and landscapes, the photo artist reinterprets the musical themes of the symphony movements. After a brilliant, monothematic illustration of a thunderstorm, a melancholy, happy serenity finally prevails, leading once again to all peoples.
The project “Tropic Ice - Dialog between Places affected by Climate Change” was official partner of the UN at the COP23 in Bonn. In 2020, as part of the European Weeks in Passau, Dombrowski was able to supplement her exhibition Tropic Ice with a live illustration of Beethoven's Pastorale with the Beethoven Symphony Orchestra.
The event will take place outside, under the stars, in front of UCC Coral Gables Church.
In case of bad weather conditions, the event will be held indoors.
With a reception at 7 pm.
