EXHIBITION: Ashley Joanna "Menschen aus Ostbelgien"

The exhibition by photographer Ashley Joanna shows her portrait series “Menschen aus Ostbelgien / People from East Belgium”. Belgians with German heritage and German as their first language describe themselves as "Ostbelgier". Joanna's goal is to learn about the culture of the region through the stories of the locals. The portraits featured in the exhibition explore the diversity of the native East Belgians and tell us about their lives, unique passions and traditions.

Ashley is originally from America and moved to the village of Rodt about 3 years ago. Her interest in photographing culture became even more intense when she made East Belgium her new home. Through this project, Ashley wants to share people's intimate stories in the form of images and text, not only to expand their knowledge, but also so that others can learn about the people in their home region. This photo series is about celebrating East Belgian culture.

KULTUR ENSEMBLE

FRANCO-GERMAN CULTURAL CENTER

Founded in 1976 as a branch of the Goethe Institut, our organization has served the German-speaking community in Atlanta and the Southeast for more than 45 years. 

As of September 2022, we are officially a KULTUR ENSEMBLE!

1 of 9 globally, and the only in North America, together with the Alliance Francaise d'Atlanta, we are the center for German and French language, culture, heritage and experiences in the heart of Downtown Atlanta.
